What this checker pulls
This tool pulls a real, live sample of backlinks pointing at any domain — the referring page, its anchor text, an authority estimate for the linking domain, and whether the link is dofollow or nofollow. It's live data from a backlink index, not a cached snapshot.
Why backlinks matter
Backlinks remain one of the strongest signals search engines use to judge how trusted and authoritative a site is — a page with links from well-regarded sites tends to rank better than an identical page with none. Checking a domain's backlinks is also one of the fastest ways to understand why a competitor outranks you, or to audit your own site's link profile for anything that looks off.
Dofollow versus nofollow
A dofollow link passes ranking credit to the page it points at; a nofollow link (common on forums, comments, and social platforms) tells search engines not to. Both can still send real visitors, but only dofollow links contribute to the ranking-authority signal backlinks are known for.
Authority isn't the only thing worth weighing
Relevance matters alongside authority: a moderate-authority link from a site genuinely in the same topic area is often worth more than a high-authority link from something completely unrelated. Anchor text is worth a glance too — natural, varied anchor text tends to reflect real editorial links, while the same exact keyword phrase repeated across many links is itself a pattern worth a second look.
What to do next
Look for patterns rather than judging any single link in isolation — a healthy backlink profile usually has links from a variety of relevant, reasonably authoritative domains. If a lookup turns up links with spammy-looking anchor text (like "cheap SEO" or "buy backlinks"), the Spam Score Checker below can help estimate how much of a domain's link profile that actually represents.
